Zozan Memorial Museum

The articles and handwriting by Sakuma Shozan (or Zozan), a leading thinker and military strategist at the end of Edo period (1603 - 1867), are displayed in this museum. On the first floor, the history and the turmoil of the age in which he lived are introduced along with the exhibition of his own handwriting. On the second floor, the life of Shozan is introduced by means of videos.

Sanada Homotsu-kan / Sanada family residence/ Literature and Military School

In addition to the armor and swords, furniture, documents, paintings, and calligraphy, which belong to the Sanada family, historical materials of the Matsushiro clan are also displayed in the Homotsu-kan (museum). Sanada house was built by Yukinori, the 9th lord of the family, for his mother as her retreat. It has a Japanese garden named Suishin Shugetsu-tei. Next to the residence is a school which provided both military and literary education for the children of clansmen.

Ikeda Masuo Art Museum

Ikeda Masuo Ikeda Masuo
Everything about Ikeda Masuo, a Nagano born, international artist, is introduced here. More than eight hundred pieces of his paintings, woodblock prints, copper prints, lithograph, and water paintings are stored, some of which are displayed in the permanent as well as special exhibitions.

Nagano City Museum

You can learn about the natural features, history, and folklore in the Zenkoji-daira area from the ancient era, with the abundant materials displayed in this museum. There is also a planetarium.

Kitano Museum of Art

The collection consists of Japanese modern paintings by Yokoyama Taikan, Hishida Shunso, Hayami Gyoshu, and Uemura Shoen, Western paintings by Koide Narashige, Kimura Sohachi, Oka Shikanosuke, Renoir, and other valuable art works. In addition to the 500 pieces of their paintings and sculptures, the Japanese garden in Kyoto style is also worth seeing.
